COVID Policies

As we welcome back old staff and settle in new, our capacity is slowly increasing. Thank you for bearing with us during the transition, your patience and understanding is appreciated! Moving forward, we will be phasing out temperature checks, as the weather gets hotter they get less and less accurate. PLEASE do not come in if you are sick or have been in contact with someone who is sick. We cannot afford to take two weeks off after being closed for three months. If you do not have an appointment yet, the easiest way is still to follow the Book Now links below for the barber of your choice. If you would prefer to make an appointment in person, that option will now be available to you as well. At this time, it is difficult to impossible to take reservations over the phone as we are busy with customers and want to give them our undivided attention for their reserved time slot. We appreciate your cooperation.
Modern Barber and Shave takes your safety seriously. Until further notice, we will be operating on an Appointment Only basis. This will ensure proper sanitation measures between each client and the next appointment time. When booking, please take into account that we need to be thorough and there will be about a ten minute grace period for cleaning and disinfection. When you arrive for your appointment, you may call if you would like to wait outside in the sunshine on our beautifully furnished porch. There is hand sanitizer in the lobby as well as drinks and snacks you can enjoy while we get ready for you. We respectfully ask that upon entering the building, you make use of either our hand washing station or hand sanitizer that will be supplied for you. Please enter with your face covering (unless you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing one, as per EO 7BB.) Once you are safely socially distanced from others, you may remove it if you wish. 

Cancelation Policy: 

When you go to book, it will ask you for a credit card number. This is to secure your place in line as time is very limited right now. If you cancel your appointment within 24 hours or less or simply do not show up, your card will be charged. If you come to your appointment on time, you have not paid. Upon completion of service, you may choose between paying contactless on the app, cash or major credit card.

Cat Thibodeau - owner/operator 

 

Cat has over a decade's worth of experience in the business and is certified in both the Barbicide disinfection program and Bloodborne Pathogens. She cut her teeth on military base barbershops and presently sits on the Cosmetology advisory board for Westerly High School. Currently holding a license in Barbering and Hairdressing/Cosmetology, Cat's training is extensive and she is honored to extend that knowledge to making our customers here at Modern feel comfortable. If there are any further accommodations she can make for you, don't hesitate to ask. 

Michele - senior barber

We're happy to welcome this seasoned barber back to the area after five years in Colorado. She's worked on and off the subbase as well as owned her own shops and now wants to help us make you Modern again! Flattops are her favorite style to cut and with an added background in the medical field, Michele will make you feel safe in her chair. Book her today!

Kaleigh - junior barber 

 

We are humbled to accept Kaleigh on our team. She worked at the Norwich Haircuttery until its closure due to COVID 19 and now she wants to become a full-fledged barber! Soon she will be a straight razor champion, so we suggest getting in on the ground floor.

Katie - apprentice

Katie is ready and rearing to go! Already a force to be reckoned with, she has head shaves down pat and is looking for challengers to help her build her craft. Her work is always double-checked by an experienced staff member to ensure your satisfaction. Book “apprentice haircut” to be next for her chair.
